Only for a while. If you win $250,000 or more, Florida keeps your name out of public records for 90 days after you claim, unless you waive it. After that, and for smaller prizes, your name can be released. The 90-day rule is set to expire on October 2, 2027 unless the Legislature renews it.
How much tax will I pay on lottery winnings in Florida?
Florida does not tax Florida Lottery prizes, so no state tax is withheld. If you live in another state, your home state may tax the prize. The federal government withholds 24% from prizes over $5,000. Withholding is only a prepayment: what you owe depends on your total income for the year, and most of a jackpot-sized prize is taxed at the top federal rate of 37%, so expect to owe more when you file. A tax professional can help you plan before you claim a large prize.

If you win a jackpot, ask the lottery how and when you choose between the cash option and the annuity, because the rules differ from state to state.
