The South Dakota Lottery runs a short list of draw games. There's no daily Pick 3 or Pick 4 and no keno-style game. Its scratch tickets and video lottery machines are separate products and aren't covered here.

The South Dakota Lottery stops selling tickets for its draw games at 9 p.m. Central on draw nights (8 p.m. for Powerball Xs & Os). Powerball's 10:59 p.m. Eastern drawing is 9:59 p.m. Central and 8:59 p.m. Mountain, and Mega Millions' 11 p.m. Eastern drawing is 10 p.m. Central and 9 p.m. Mountain. The western part of the state, including Rapid City, is on Mountain time.
Powerball Double Play is also available in South Dakota for $1 more per play. Millionaire for Life replaced Lucky for Life in 2026, and Powerball Xs & Os, an NFL-themed weekly game, went on sale in South Dakota on September 8, 2026, according to the South Dakota Lottery.
What is Dakota Cash?
Dakota Cash is South Dakota's in-state jackpot game. You choose five numbers from 1 to 35 for $1 a play. If nobody matches all five, the jackpot rolls over to the next drawing. Our results data shows the jackpot at $74,000 for the October 3, 2026 drawing. For another $1, the EZ Match add-on prints five extra numbers on your ticket that win an instant prize of $2 to $100 if they match any of your Dakota Cash numbers.

The overall odds of winning a prize are 1 in 7.2. Prize amounts can become pari-mutuel, meaning they're shared out based on sales and the number of winners, and a jackpot with more than one winning ticket is split equally. Claiming a prize, taxes and anonymity in South Dakota
South Dakota has no state income tax, so the state takes nothing from a lottery prize. Federal tax still applies, and the lottery withholds 24 percent of any prize over $5,000.
Winners can stay anonymous. On its claim page, the lottery says it will honor a winner's request for anonymity, though it still releases the retailer that sold the ticket, the game and the prize amount.
You have 180 days from the drawing to claim a draw-game prize. Prizes of $100 or less can be cashed at a retailer. Prizes from $101 to $5,000 can be claimed by mail, at a validation center in Pierre, Rapid City or Sioux Falls, or through the lottery's mobile app. Jackpot-winning Dakota Cash and Lotto America tickets have to be presented in person at a lottery office, and Powerball and Mega Millions jackpot tickets in person at the Pierre office.
You must be 18 to buy scratch or draw-game tickets and 21 to play video lottery.
The lottery says its net income goes to the state's General Fund, which mainly supports K–12 schools, universities and technical institutes, and to the Capital Construction Fund, which pays for water, wastewater and similar local projects.
