What time is the SuperLotto Plus drawing?
7:45 p.m. Pacific time on Wednesdays and Saturdays, which is 10:45 p.m. Eastern. Powerball draws on the same two nights (plus Mondays) at 10:59 p.m. Eastern, or 7:59 p.m. in California, so on a Wednesday or Saturday the SuperLotto Plus numbers come out about a quarter of an hour before the Powerball numbers. Retailers stop selling for each drawing a little before draw time, so buy earlier in the evening rather than at 7:40.
How do you play SuperLotto Plus?
- Choose five different numbers from 1 to 47.
- Choose one Mega number from 1 to 27. It comes from a separate set of balls, so it can repeat one of your first five.
- Pay $1 for the play, or ask the clerk for a Quick Pick and let the terminal choose.
Matching the Mega number by itself already wins a prize. You need three of the five main numbers to win without the Mega.
What are the odds?
The jackpot odds are 1 in 41,416,353. That is the number of possible tickets: 1,533,939 ways to choose five numbers from 47, multiplied by 27 possible Mega numbers. The odds of winning any prize work out to about 1 in 23.
Those odds are roughly seven times better than Powerball's 1 in 292.2 million, but the jackpot is far smaller. A SuperLotto Plus jackpot resets to $7 million after it's won, against Powerball's $20 million.

Why do SuperLotto Plus prizes change every draw?
No SuperLotto Plus prize has a fixed value. The California Lottery pays every tier on a pari-mutuel basis: each tier gets a set share of that drawing's sales, and the share is divided among the tickets that hit it. A busy draw with few winners at a tier pays more per ticket, and a quiet draw with many winners pays less.

Is SuperLotto Plus the same as SuperEnalotto?
No. SuperLotto Plus is sold only in California. SuperEnalotto is an Italian game and isn't sold in the US. Several other countries run games with "Super Lotto" in the name, and they're unrelated to the California game.
Claiming a SuperLotto Plus prize
You have 180 days from the draw date to claim. California doesn't tax California Lottery winnings, although the IRS still withholds 24% from prizes over $5,000. A jackpot winner who wants the cash option instead of the 30-year annuity has 60 days after the claim is approved to choose, and if no choice is made the prize is paid as an annuity.
